The British Hairdressing Awards were established in 1985, to honour and recognize hairdressers throughout the country, who have shown outstanding excellence in hairdressing.

Recognised undisputedly in the hairdressing world as the equivalent of receiving an Oscar, in terms of prestige, The British Hairdressing Awards are the ultimate in the hairdressing calendar.

Every year hundreds of people enter from salons throughout the UK, to some of the largest names in the business, many of which have gone on to become household names. There are several categories hairdressers can choose to enter, with the most prestigious title being ‘British Hairdresser of the Year’, where entry into this category is by nomination only.

Peter entered into the category of ‘Midlands Hairdresser of the Year’, only the second time in doing so. Peter’s team entry consisted of Peter himself, Senior Stylist Kristina Jones, Make-Up Artist Gary Gill, clothes stylist Ivy Weir and photographer, Paul Hopkins.

The competition was judged photographically whereby four pictures were submitted and viewed by a distinguished panel of judges. Peter’s vision for his collection, which he and his team created, was titled ‘Quintessential Elegance’. Inspired by evocative movements in art and literature thus evoking dreamlike and ghostly images.

Peter’s outstanding and breathtaking collection of pictures secured him and his team a place in the grand final. All 96 finalists from all categories were invited to come together under one roof for a night full of glamour and glitterati.

The venue was none other than the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London. The 30 strong team from Peter’s salon travelled by coach to London from Hereford amidst huge excitement. The finals required another photographic entry that was to be shown on the night and judged previously at a secret location a few weeks prior. The final collection required Peter to show work that represented his ideas, ability, creative flair and technical expertise.

Jonathan Ross hosted the night itself, with television crews, media journalists, photographers and a star-studded audience all, soaking up the fabulous atmosphere, as the nominations were introduced, one by one.

With bated breath Peter’s category was announced and his work presented on a giant screen. Peter didn’t have to wait long before being awarded ‘Midlands Hairdresser of the Year 2004’, beating off the five other finalists in his category and was presented with his award on stage from Jonathan Ross.

Overnight, winning this award has resulted in countless requests from every avenue of the media for Peter. Not only is his work being featured throughout the hairdressing world, so far in 2005, Peter is being sought after by television, radio and exhibition organisers, to make guest appearances as an expert in his field.
